No. Due to iOS system limitations, motion sensors (like the accelerometer and gyroscope) are suspended when the app is sent to the background or the device is locked. To track indoor laps successfully, you must keep the Orbit app open in the foreground and your screen unlocked.
Setting up a beacon is quick and requires zero configuration:
1. Place or hang your powered BLE beacon hardware at the track's start/finish line.
2. Enable the "Use BLE Beacons (Indoor)" toggle in Orbit Settings.
3. Stand next to the beacon at the start line when you tap "Start Workout".
The app will automatically scan and record the beacon's unique signature during calibration. No UUID or major/minor setup is needed!
To prevent false triggers (like turning around mid-lap or walking back and forth near the start line), Orbit implements a step-gating filter. On subsequent laps, the detector stays locked until you complete at least 98% of your average estimated steps per lap.

Orbit pre-warms your GPS receiver immediately upon selecting Outdoor mode. If your phone achieves a high-accuracy satellite lock before you tap "Start", the app bypasses the default 45-second outdoor lock sequence entirely, allowing you to begin your workout instantly under 1 second.
